BURLINGTON, Ky. (WXIX) – Two Cooper High School students are receiving praise for taking control of their school bus after it crashed early Wednesday.
Junior Micah Jones and sophomore Karter Dearwester say there were about 13 students on their school bus as it came down Collier Lane on Wednesday.
Dearwester says he and Jones sit in the front two seats and they noticed something wrong with their bus driver.
“He wasn’t making no sounds or nothing,” Dearwester described. “I was just looking out the window and I seen a mailbox that was like closer than it usually should be to the bus. And then I looked up and I seen him leaned over.”
The Cooper High School junior says the driver was going too fast as he approached the stop sign at Hanover Boulevard.
“And he still was looking down,” Dearwester explained. “He wasn’t looking at the road.”
