WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Williamsburg played a major role in the story of Team USA’s Sophia Luwis.

“I like to say I first started at William & Mary. On the Club Rowing Team,” she said.

Luwis started rowing at William & Mary as an undergrad after signing up for the sport at the College Club Fair. And now, four short years after graduating, she’s flying to Paris as part of Team USA’s Olympic Rowing Team.

“I’m going to be 27 the day of the final for the lightweight women’s double,” Luwis pointed out. “It’s a big thing! Anybody that asks I’m like, ‘Guess what day my birthday is on!’”
