BASTROP, La. (KNOE) – The Louisiana Secretary of State hosted mock elections for Calhoun Middle and Beekman Charter schools this week.
Approximately 300 students attending Morehouse Magnet and Bastrop High School learned Thursday (Aug. 22) morning what it’s like to vote by going through the process of what happens at polling locations.
“It gives them hands-on opportunities to experience real-life experiences such as voting and learning about the democratic process,” said principal Marilyn Taylor of Bastrop High.
The mock elections took place inside the gymnasium on Bastrop High’s campus.
“We’re here to show them how to use the machines, so they’ll be comfortable with them, and that’s the reason we’re out today – just to let them see the machines and make sure they are registered to vote,” said Marsha Farrar, who’s the registrar of voters for Morehouse Parish.
