Sears resolves customers dispute over home services warranty [Video]

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – When Carrie Roman’s washing machine broke down in July, she went online to look for an appliance repair company.

“I typed it in over Google, and Sears came up,” she said. “I called them and got a response from customer service.”

Sears filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2018 and closed over 700 stores. There are no open stores in Georgia, but the retailer still operates an online store and sells everything from appliances to tools, tires, electronics, and shoes.

It also continues to offer its home services program, although it subcontracts the work to vendors. The program resembles other home warranty providers such as American Home Shield.

When Romans called, she did not have a warranty, but the serviceman offered her a $150 discount for the repair if she signed up, so she did.

But when the repairman didn’t have the part, Romans said he ordered it for delivery and left. …
