WVU celebrates 32nd Annual Peace Tree Ceremony [Video]

MORGANTOWN, W.Va (WDTV) – Wednesday at WVU was the 32nd celebration of the school’s Peace Tree the event signifies the school’s committee to honor Native American heritage. Native speakers say it’s important to remember the past.

“I think it’s important because when we think about the notion of history sometimes we forget a lot of these communities are also modern-day nations, with their own goals and visions and ideas so it needs to figure out how we relate to one another historically and also how we bring us together,” said Kody grant, Pueblo of Isleta and Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians member.

People in attendance got to hear special guests speak, and they tied ribbons containing tobacco, representing thoughts and prayers. In today’s politically charged climate, officials reminded attendees that if we were once able to set aside differences in this nation. We can do it again today.
