When Kylie V sings, “I want to build this from the ground up” on “Anomaly”, they’re talking about the now-over relationship that defines much of their sophomore record, Crash Test Plane. But they might as well be singing about the album itself.
“Guitar music is a little timeless,” says the 20-year-old Surrey-raised musician born Kylie Van Slyke. “If you have the heart and soul and spirit behind it, four chords and a very simple drum beat is truly all you need.”
Despite their prodigious age, Van Slyke has been a mainstay of the Vancouver music scene for half a decade already. They started taking music seriously at 14—cutting their teeth playing live, putting out EP Lotus Eater in 2018, and following up with their debut full-length Big Blue in 2021.
