Educators adapting to AI tools in schools | News [Video]

BREWER — Experts at the University of Maine have been leading conversations about the best practices for artificial intelligence in schools as more districts are looking toward AI as a tool for staff and educators. 

Artificial intelligence has entered the classroom, forcing more educators to find the best approaches to AI. 

“I like to encourage people to think that this is just another tool that teachers have in their tool belt,” said University of Maine associate professor of education Sarah Howorth. 

Howorth says educators have always used technology to support student learning, and AI is just the latest advancement. 

“We have to prepare our students for a world that is going to be very different than what we are experiencing today, we can’t prepare them for the past,” said Howorth. 

Local school departments say it has been a challenge finding the balance between the positives and the negatives of artificial intelligence tools.
