South Dakota Attorney General urges Congress to pass Kids Online Safety Act [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Protecting children from the harms of online content is a big priority for South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley.

Jackley and 31 other attorneys general are urging Congress to pass the Kids Online Safety Act. If passed, the legislation would protect children from harm on the internet.

The act includes addiction prevention, mandatory default safety settings and parental empowerment.

Platforms would be required to enable their strongest safety protections for underage youth, instead of placing these features behind opt-in screens.

Users would be able to disable algorithmic recommendations and features created for manipulation.

“AI advancements and technology, as well as the collection of that private data of children, (and) some of the mental illness challenges. These are all reasons why Congress needs to get to work and pass it and help us attorney generals in protecting children,” Jackley said.
