AI helping transcribe doctor-patient interactions [Video]

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Artificial intelligence is transforming multiple sectors, and Mercy Cedar Rapids is harnessing the technology to transcribe doctor-patient interactions.

The tool is called ‘DAX Copilot.’

”Basically types up our notes for us while we’re talking to the patients, so we can have a direct patient-doctor interaction and after the fact we can spend less time actually charting the notes and more time taking care of our patients,” said Dr. Shiny Mathewkutty.

Dr. Shiny Mathewkutty, a cardiologist and Chief Medical Informatics Officer at Mercy Medical Center, said the technology is helping physicians reduce stress.

”We know that physician burnout is a big problem nationwide and there’s a big shortage. So we want to do what we can to kind of help alleviate that burden,” she said.
