City of Reno to discuss the future of the Lear Theater [Video]

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – On Wednesday, the City of Reno will be reviewing a possible direction for the next steps on the Lear Theater rehabilitation project.

During this council meeting, they will be reviewing the Historical Structure Report (HRS) for the Lear Theater, which was originally commissioned by the city last spring. This report provides a comprehensive planning tool and offers guidance on the maintenance needed for the Lear Theater.

The Historic Structure Report (HSR) shows the building to be in fair to poor condition. The council will decide what the next steps are for the Lear Theater/First Church of Christ, Scientist.

The HSR, with guidance from the Historical Resources Commissions (HRC) prompts the following potential options for moving forward to be:

• Prioritize building stabilization.
• Find funding to install the secure fencing.
• Engage a consultant to do a market and feasibility study.
• Engage a consultant to conduct community engagement and input on uses for the building that includes stakeholder groups.
