HOLLISTER, Mo. (KY3) – A Hollister Middle School social studies teacher received the surprise of a lifetime Thursday morning.
The Milken Foundation awarded Dallas DeWesse one of 45 national Milken Educator Awards, which is considered the ‘Oscars of Education.’ He was the only teacher from Missouri selected for the honor, which comes with a cash prize of $25,000.
School leaders surprised DeWesse and his wife with an assembly. DeWesse thought someone else had won the award.
“(I) kind of had an idea it was going to be a teacher who had been in the district for a long time,” said DeWesse. “I thought she is very deserving, Ms. Snowden. She is amazing, and I thought she would be the most deserving person in this building to receive that. But it wasn’t. I felt almost unworthy because I am just a dude doing my job.”
