A survivor speaks about experience with post-separation abuse [Video]

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Sarah McLean, a Maine native, sat down with Maine’s Total Coverage to share her story.Although she has been out of an abusive relationship for years, she shared what she’s been dealing with even after the relationship ended.“There’s a fog that you live in for quite some time when you’re in an abusive relationship,” McLean said. “I think part of that is that a lot of your focus is just on surviving.”She said that there are all kinds of ways that abuse can come into a relationship that isn’t as clear as bruises on your body. McLean said domestic abuse is all about one party maintaining power and control over another.
