The council approved this unanimously.
ATLANTA — The Atlanta City Council has taken a step into the future by approving a resolution to explore the potential impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on city government.
The measure, passed unanimously Monday, establishes an Artificial Intelligence Commission to study the benefits, opportunities, and challenges of incorporating AI into municipal operations. (Councilman Alex Wan abstained due to a conflict of interest).
Ron Pierce, an information technology expert and president of Trinity Solutions, Inc., praised the council’s move, describing it as a proactive approach to embracing a transformative tool.
“This tool isn’t going to go away,” Pierce said. “And there’s no need to bury our heads in the sand on this. It’s all right. If it’s here, let’s figure out how we can actually leverage it. So, I think it’s a good start.”
Potential Applications of AI
Pierce outlined several potential uses for AI in city government, including:
- Traffic Flow Analysis: Optimizing traffic patterns to reduce congestion
- Customer Service Chatbots…
