Áak’w Rock Festival Canceled

The big Indigenous music festival in Juneau has been canceled this year. Áak’w Rock typically happens every other year and was scheduled for September. But organizers say “due to temporary staffing constraints” the 2025 event is on hold. They hope to be back in 2027.

Avalanche Mitigation on Seward Highway

Work to limit the hazards posed by avalanches has been underway along the Seward Highway. State transportation officials shared a video on social media, showing the mitigation work that happened on Sunday at the Seward/Sterling Wye. More of this work took place Monday South of Girdwood and North of Portage.

Fairbanks Project Search Program

The Fairbanks School District’s “Project Search” program is now accepting new applicants. This school-to-work transition program is specifically for young people with disabilities. If you want to learn more, an open house is planned for February 6 at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. The deadline to apply for the program is March 3.
