MONROE, La. (KNOE) – Jo Ann Deal with the Better Business Bureau joined Good Morning ArkLaMiss to discuss new Medicare cards and numbers being sent out.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) experienced a data breach in May 2023. In July 2024, a new issue was identified. This prompted CMS to send out new Medicare cards and numbers to protect the privacy of patients.
CMS said the new cards and numbers do not affect current coverage. Once patients get a new card, the CMS said to take the following steps:
- Follow the instructions in the letter that comes with your new card
- Destroy your old Medicare card
- Inform your providers that you have a new Medicare number
