BELLEVUE, Ky. (WXIX) – When Bellevue City Schools decided to make major renovations at its high school, they discovered a problem – they did not own the land.
Bellevue City Schools Superintendent Misty Middleton says the improvements at Bellevue High School include new field turf, a new track, new concession stands and improved parking.
But when the school district looked up the deeds to the property, they discovered that the land did not belong to them; It was in the city’s name.
“It was very shocking to me,” admitted Middleton. ”I had never heard of such a thing, and I’ve been in education for 30 years and that was the first time I had known that the city had actually owned school buildings.”
The school district asked the city of Bellevue to help with the renovations, so they did a simple title search.
