COLUMBUS, Ohio — Legal analysis: With the signing of Braden’s Law by Gov. Mike DeWine, the crime of sextortion is being treated more seriously in Ohio than it ever has before.
Legally Speaking, this means the crime will be a felony, and parents or guardians of victims under the age of 18 will have quicker access to evidence to prove it happened.
Sextortion, which is short for sexual extortion, is an online crime. It happens when someone coerces another person into sharing sexually explicit pictures or videos, and then uses that to try to extort money or something of value from the person they’ve tricked.
