Capitol showcases gun AI detection cameras [Video]

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Michigan State Capitol wants to make safety the top priority for visitors visiting the Capitol.

ZeroEyes a software security surveillance company, held an AI demonstration at the capitol this afternoon. Last year, visitors were prohibited from carrying guns in the building.

Robert Blackshaw, executive director of the Michigan State Capitol, and the capitol commission approved the ban. He says ZeroEyes is another tool law enforcement can use.

“So, the artificial intelligence can see things through a camera that the human eye can’t see,” said Blackshaw. “So, it’s a great aid to help them do their job more efficiently.”

The surveillance system was installed last year in November.

Bryan St. Bernard, a retired special agent with ZeroEyes says the system only detects firearms, not knives, or bombs.

“There’s always a firearm involved,” said Bernard. “So, we focused on that because we felt like that was the biggest threat to public spaces.”
