China’s DeepSeek Gives Trump Another TikTok-style Headache [Video]

Chinese startup DeepSeek has caused a massive stir in the AI world, with Donald Trump looking set for another TikTok-style headache amid concerns over DeepSeek’s competitive edge and privacy policies.

Newsweek has contacted the Trump-Vance transition team and DeepSeek, via email, for comment.

What To Know

The U.S. is being forced to grapple with the power and advancement of another Chinese app, while the future of the TikTok ban, which was upheld by the Supreme Court on January 17, is still unknown after Trump signed an executive order telling the U.S. Attorney General not to enforce the law yet.

The TikTok ban was “designed to prevent China—a designated foreign adversary—from leveraging its control over ByteDance to capture the personal data of US TikTok users,” the Supreme Court said.
