Council approves Berkeley Co. plan to protect land, improve outdoor recreation [Video]

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – Berkeley County officially has a greenbelt preservation plan for the first time.

The topic came to a head due to the growth and development the county has seen in the last few years.

The over 100-page master plan breaks it down into four key points: an overview of the planning process, data collection and existing conditions analysis, core priorities and needs, and a county action plan.

Up to $58.7 million from the county’s one-cent sales tax program will be used for greenbelt preservation projects. Those projects include things like protecting natural resources and purchasing property for conservation.

The master plan also has recommendations for community and regional parks so that more people can enjoy them.
