SPEARFISH, S.D. – Mountain Biking has a big part in the culture of the Black Hills. One such way people get involved in mountain biking is the annual Dakota Five-O in Spearfish.
Starting back in 2000, the Dakota Five-O has brought mountain bikers from across 23 U.S. states and even Canada. It was started by the Ridge Riders Black Hills Mountain Bike Club and offers a challenging 50 mile course with over 6,500 feet in elevation gain.
“I love the terrain out here,” said Jenna Rinehart, a mountain bike race from Mankato, Minnesota. “I love the Black Hills. It’s really good riding. Long climbs. A little more rocky terrain than what we have in Minnesota, but yeah, I like it. Feels kind of like mountainous riding, but you don’t have the high elevations of Colorado, so you can breathe a little bit easier.”
