The new display combines contemporary art with music history and cutting-edge technology

WASHINGTON — A new art installation is turning heads in D.C. It combines contemporary art with musical history and cutting-edge technology.

The monumental public artwork by artist Refik Anadol is called “Dvořák Dreams.” The 32 by 32 foot immersive data sculpture utilizes artificial intelligence to transform the musical legacy of Czech composer Antonin Dvořák into a multisensory experience. It’s now on display at the Kennedy Center’s REACH campus.

“Dvořák was a cutting-edge, leading composer of his time who came from the Czech Republic — Czechoslovakia — to America to understand what was happening musically. He was on the cutting edge, he was at the forefront of it. Rafik Anadol is taking that music and making it contemporary to our world today,” said Kennedy Center President Deborah Rutter.
