LUFKIN, Texas — Th Ellen Trout Zoo’s director announced his retirement Wednesday after 48 years of service.
Gordon Henley’s time at the Lufkin zoo dates back to 1976. He has since seen the Ellen Trout Zoo grow into a facility that over 1000 animals call home.
“Serving as the director of Ellen Trout Zoo has been a true honor,” Gordon said. “I have cherished every moment spent creating a magical experience for our visitors, and I am profoundly grateful for the support of our community.”
In honor of his retirement, the zoo will hold several special events. Details on the events will come out in the near future.
