THE ESB have been told they risk raising “suspicions about surveillance” by refusing to release the details of the data collected by their smart meter network.
It came after the energy network agency refused to release the data stored on an individual meter in a Wicklow household that requested the information.
Privacy advocacy group Digital Rights Ireland said that the ESB‘s lack of clarity is likely to increase public distrust in the machines.
The Wicklow resident made the request under the Freedom of Information Act, asking for the details of all of the information uploaded by his smart meter.
The ESB refused and said giving the information could risk breaching the “network and information systems which it uses in its operations”.
