Final major invention that transforms healthcare: UAB starts an AI in medicine program [Video]

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The way the world experiences healthcare may be changing drastically soon.

UAB announced a master’s in AI in medicine program set to launch in 2025, teaching students how to ethically incorporate AI software into healthcare.

“I think it’s arguably going to be the final major invention that transforms health and healthcare,” UAB Professor in Biomedical Innovation, Dr. Rubin Pillay, said.

“AI is a very powerful tool, and, like all powerful tools, can be misused,” AI Software Engineer Carter Yancey said. “So, it’s important that we understand how to use it ethically and responsibly.”

Ethics and responsibility are two pillars of UAB’s new master’s program. Faculty are adamant on ensuring that all students are aware of the power AI technology has and the responsibility surrounding its proper use, weaving this concept into all of the program’s curriculum.
