The internet can be a double-edged sword when researching illnesses, as a quick Google search can sometimes lead to increased anxiety. Now, users online can engage in humanlike conversations with artificial intelligence chatbots like ChatGPT.
In fact, a survey by digital consultancy firm Customertimes found that two in three Americans believe AI will surpass humans in diagnosing and treating medical conditions. The study also found that four in 10 Americans are willing to follow medical advice generated by AI.
However, Americans generally expect AI to serve as a supportive tool for doctors and health care providers rather than a replacement for physicians.
Dr. Aamer Khan told Newsweek: “Whilst AI’s strengths in health care shows the potential for enhancing patient outcomes, the emphasis and importance of maintaining the human touch in medicine is crucial for the patient’s best outcome.”
