Iowa Democratic Party Chair surprised by Biden decision [Video]

DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa State Capitol Bureau) – “I did not have an inside track on this decision,” Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart acknowledged hours after President Joe Biden confirmed Sunday that he would not continue his re-election campaign.

Biden faced pushback from within his own party amid concerns that his overall mental fitness has declined. Nearly three dozen Democratic members of Congress had publicly called for Biden to end his bid for a second term in the White House.

Hart said that she didn’t see this announcement from Biden coming. “It was just as much a surprise to me as it was everyone else.”

Biden followed up his announcement that he would no longer seek re-election with another post on “X” (formerly Twitter) that he had endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidential nomination.
