There’s a first time for everything, and John Samsel of the family owned So Delicious Ice Cream in Clark was reminded of that fact when he participated in the new internship program for students with disabilities from Hudson Community Enterprises (HCE).
It was then that Samsel met Zi’Nayiah “Zi” Warren, a deaf student from Newark, who came to So Delicious through HCE’s new internship program. Before meeting Zi, So Delicious had never hired a person with a disability.
“I was really excited to have this opportunity for an internship with a deaf person,” said Samsel. “I wasn’t sure how it was going to work and how she was going to serve the clientele. But you know what I believe in? Everybody deserves a chance, and we wanted to give that chance to her.”
