Louisiana BESE board appoints new executive director after special meeting [Video]

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education appointed a new BESE Executive Director.

During a special meeting, Tavares A. Walker was appointed as the new executive director after Shan Davis, the previous executive director, retired in April.

“Mr. Walker’s career and life experiences align well with BESE’s mission to provide leadership and create policies for education that expand opportunities for children, empower families and communities, and advance Louisiana in an increasingly competitive global market,” said BESE President Ronnie Morris.

“I am deeply honored to be selected for this position,” said Mr. Walker. “I am equally excited for the opportunity to help BESE with driving education policy that aligns with our ongoing workforce needs and reforms needed to achieve the world-class education system we all desire and our students deserve.”
