HOLTVILLE, Ala. (WSFA) – At Holtville Elementary School’s library, Natalie McLemore helps students check out books, explore the library, and discover new things.
“I started as a first grade teacher in Montgomery before I made my transition,” she said. “Now, I’ve been working 13 years as a librarian.”
In the classroom, she always loved books and reading but never considered working in the library until she had a conversation with her grandmother.
“My grandmother worked at a public library, and she said, ‘I think you’ll be perfect at it,’ and she was right,” McLemore said.
Now, instead of reaching 20 kids in a classroom, she can teach hundreds. As the library media specialist, she works alongside students on different projects and offers reading incentives. McLemore loves to share her love for reading with the children and help them step away from their tablets and computers to pick up a book.
