CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Mercy Medical Center has been using new, A.I. powered technology to make breast cancer procedures more safe.
The software takes information from an MRI scan to build a 3D image of a person’s tumor. Doctors say that those images give them valuable information about the tumor and helps doctors map out the best ways to treat it. With more information, the risk of complications during surgery is lowered.
”You may have the same cancer, the same size cancer, but the biology of that cancer may be so uniquely different that it dictates a different course of treatment,” Dr. Vincent Reid with Mercy Medical Center said.
Medical experts are excited about this technology. As somebody who has been doing these procedures since 2007, Dr. Reid says it takes surgical planning from an art to a science.
