MercyOne offers free mammograms through October, early November [Video]

WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – MercyOne locations in eastern Iowa are offering free mammogram screenings over the next month. These “Free Mammo Nights” offer women not only a free mammogram screening, but a risk assessment as well.

A mammogram scan can be lifesaving, letting women know valuable information regarding breast cancer. Cancer is an especially big issue in Iowa, MercyOne says cancer is a growing issue in the state.

Doctors say it’s a rule of thumb for women to get a mammogram once a year after they turn 40.

”I went into medicine to help empower women in their healthcare choices,” Rachel Preisser, director of Breast Imaging Services for MercyOne Northeast Iowa, said. “By knowing what your breast cancer risk is, then you have choices, you have choices about different risk reducing strategies.”

The Free Mammo Nights will be at a different hospital each week.
