ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Mother of three and Parent Teacher Alliance member, Adrienne Michel, is unhappy about the way Anchorage School District published the list proposing seven Anchorage neighborhood elementary schools be closed and re-consolidated.
Michel has a first and third-grader enrolled at Bear Valley Elementary, a school now facing permanent closure.
“I got text messages from teachers and administrators that I know who just said, you just won’t believe this,” Michel said Saturday, one day after the announcement.
Friday ASD staff and families of students were notified of the potential changes coming to their schools – an advancement of the “rightsizing” initiative ASD introduced in April.
“Within about 10 minutes of those text messages, we got the mass email that ASD sent out to families who were enrolled in those schools,” Michel said while describing how caught off-guard she was when she heard the news.
