MPS misses another financial deadline [Video]

There’s another new deadline for Milwaukee Public Schools. The district now expects to have its required financial documents to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction by Thanksgiving. The deadline is weeks after a deadline in the “corrective action plan” the state and MPS agreed to and roughly a year after the financial reporting deadline. “We currently believe MPS will complete its audited fiscal year materials by Thanksgiving,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Jill Underly. “That’s not a hard and fast deadline, but we’re cautiously optimistic that it is possible.” In a virtual news conference Monday, only select questions from reporters were answered. The state DPI previously withheld $42.6 million because of financial reporting errors made by the district.
