Nashville school board to soon discuss AI policy [Video]

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – This year across Tennessee, public universities and school systems are required to submit an AI policy.

It’s a product of the latest legislative session, where Representative Scott Cepicky sponsored a bill he says ensures AI is being closely monitored when used in the classroom.

“Now we all know there’s good things about it that can happen for research, data, etc.,” Cepicky said. “But the one thing AI cannot become is a crutch in education for either our teachers or our students.”

On Tuesday night, Metro Nashville Public Schools will consider their AI policy for the upcoming year. The policy would require parents to be notified if a new AI system was being used in the classroom and would also reserve the use of AI in a “morally sound and responsible way,” among other things.
