LINCOLN, Neb. (KSNB) – Governor Jim Pillen joined Attorney General Mike Hilgers and state senators Monday afternoon to introduce a trio of bills aimed at protecting children online.
The first bill, proposed by Senator Brian Hardin, is geared towards the use of artificial intelligence in child sexual abuse material. Senator Hardin said during the press conference that his bill would catch the law up with the growth of technology.
The second bill, spearheaded by Sen. Rita Sanders, directs the Nebraska Department of Education to create a policy for cell phone use in schools. Sanders emphasized that the measure would allow local school boards to tailor policies for their districts.
The third bill, introduced by Sen. Carolyn Bosn, addresses age-appropriate use of social media. A related proposal by Sen. Tanya Storer would require age verification or parental consent for creating social media accounts. Storer noted the legislation includes a $2,500 civil …
