ALAMEDA COUNTY, Calif. (KRON) – An expensive ticket may be coming to East Bay drivers parked in a bus lane. Beginning Monday, AC Transit will begin issuing pricey tickets to drivers in the bus lane.

Cameras that once sent warnings to drivers parked in bus lanes will now send tickets up to $110.

The cameras are generated by artificial intelligence and are mounted on the bus’s windshield.

The cameras can identify vehicles and take photos within seconds while sending warnings.

The videos and photos will be destroyed within 60 days of a resolution and any video of non-violations will be destroyed within 15 days.

In total, 100 transit buses across Alameda and Contra Costa County will have these cameras and officials say the buses have been test-running them since June. In the trial period, the buses captured almost 800 violations, which is significant compared to the old manual cameras that only captured 22.
