The King of the Flat-tops, with the vintage vibe and feel from the era that gave birth to some of the most prized Gibson Acoustic instruments. This new Custom Shop 1957 SJ-200 offers details such as hand-selected maple for the back and sides, a headstock stinger, and our thermally aged top for the full vintage effect. It also features Light Aging by the skilled artisans of the Murphy Lab. The Murphy Lab Light Aged finish treatment, paired with lightly aged hardware, simulates decades of light play wear, giving it the unique character, vibe, and feel of an original example from the Gibson Golden Era.

Today Dinesh has something really special in the Gibson Gear Guide studio – he’s demoing the 1957 Gibson SJ-200, a jumbo acoustic affectionately known as the “King of the Flattops.” This vintage sunburst Murphy Lab light-aged acoustic guitar from teh Gibson Custo Shop features a thermally aged Sitka spruce top, hand-selected flame maple back and sides, and scalloped X-bracing with hide glue for incredible resonance. The rounded profile neck with a rosewood fingerboard ensures comfort and playability, while the compound dovetail neck joint optimises vibration transfer throughout the guitar so your notes ring out longer than you might expect!

Premium highlights include mother-of-pearl graduated crown inlays, Gotoh tuners with Keystone buttons, and the iconic four-bar mustache bridge. Finished with a Murphy Lab-aged nitrocellulose lacquer, this guitar will age gracefully over time and sound better with every year you have it. Complete with a period-correct case and certificate of authenticity, the SJ-200 is perfect for rhythm players and singer-songwriters who need projection, depth, and solid tone.
