Oak Ridge National Lab on the cutting edge of AI use and research [Video]

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (WVLT) – At Oak Ridge National Lab, as they’ve continued to add faster and faster supercomputers to their inventory, it’s created more opportunity for advancement.

They’ve been using and studying artificial intelligence at this lab since 1979, and experts see it as a vital resource moving forward.

“AI is fundamentally changing the way that we do science here at the lab,” said director of AI Programs, Prasanna Balaprakash.

ORNL has been on the cutting edge of using AI to their advantage.

According to Balaprakash, they’ve used AI to take what used to be months and weeks worth of work and turn it into only seconds.

With AI, they’re able to analyze billions of materials and find the handful that work for them, as the lab continues to try to find ways to improve everyday life for East Tennessean’s. The materials they’re looking at could one day be …
