OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – School children may have had the day off Monday, but that didn’t stop some of them from getting a history lesson.
Nezzie Hardges is making sure her niece — first-grader Amelia — learns about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Durham Museum’s MLK Community Free Day is the perfect classroom.
“I thought it was important for her to know who Dr. King was and to know her history, because we’re from Mississippi, from the south,” said Hardges. “I don’t believe the school system properly educated our children, especially our Black children, about their history, especially in the environment and climate of the world today.”
The Durham is working to fill that void Hardges is talking about.
