OpenAI Bids To Shift to For-Profit Company [Video]

OpenAI, the San Francisco-based artificial intelligence company known for products such as ChatGPT, may soon transition from its nonprofit roots to a conventional corporate structure.

The move would signify a substantial shift in its operational focus, aligning it more closely with shareholder interests.

At the moment, while OpenAI already operates a for-profit division, it is overseen by a nonprofit board which states that its mission centers on benefiting humanity—a commitment that could be diluted if the organization officially adopts a public benefit corporation status.
