PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The water you drink and use here in Phoenix was inspected by AI technology.
The city is using this new technology to help crack down on polluters who are sending chemicals into our water system.
“It sends a message to our staff and then we can decide to either send out our inspectors to go take a look,” said Nazario Prieto, Assistant Water Services Director with the Phoenix Water Department.
Prieto said this technology is being used to monitor what flows through Phoenix’s 5,000-mile sewer system.
“We want to make sure that people aren’t putting things into the sewer that could really affect the treatment process or could damage our infrastructure,” he said.
Prieto said the city has had problems with businesses disposing of gasoline or other harmful chemicals into the sewer system. Before using this new tech, the city had to rely on a 15-person team to track …
