Press Herald, Maine Trust for Local News recognized with Maine Press awards [Video]

The Portland Press Herald and Maine Sunday Telegram were recognized with 60 awards at the Maine Press Association’s annual awards ceremony Saturday night.

The Press Herald won second place for general excellence print in the daily news category and third place for general excellence digital. The newspaper’s Sunday edition, the Maine Sunday Telegram, won third place for general excellence print among weekend publications.

In all, the Portland papers won multiple individual awards, including 24 first place awards, for reporting and editing, photography, opinion writing and advertising, The awards were presented Saturday at the association’s awards ceremony in Bar Harbor.

The Press Herald and Maine Sunday Telegram are part of the Maine Trust for Local News, which includes the Sun Journal in Lewiston, the Kennebec Journal in Augusta, the Morning Sentinel in Waterville, the Times Record in Brunswick, and 17 weekly papers in southern and western Maine, including the Forecaster group. …
