CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Several downtown stores have their holiday sales going on, which typically makes for good business for most shops.
However, with more foot traffic around this season, some stores may have their guard up when it comes to potential shoplifters.
Two store managers on King Street said customer engagement is a great way to determine their customers’ intentions.
“A lot of times it will be somebody that you least suspect, they come in late, they come in. You know they are super friendly and they want to talk to us to do this last situation. It was that kind of theft that caught us by surprise,” a Beckett Boutique store manager Athena Crofts says.
Crofts say their most recent shoplifting incident was that somebody they least suspected.
“The whole time we’re checking this person out, thinking she’s just a regular customer after she left, we went back …
