Researchers have introduced a novel approach to studying social behavior in rats using a robotic pal.
A team from the Beijing Institute of Technology has created an AI-trained robotic rat capable of engaging in playful and aggressive behaviors with live rodents.
In the future, this robotic rat could provide companionship to laboratory rats.
“[The] robotic rats have similar appearances and movements to animals, and even the same odour. It has become an important tool for exploring individual or collective rats’ behavioural responses,” Qing Shi told New Scientist.
