SBA denies safe entrance grant for Lincoln County [Video]

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – One day after the nation’s latest school shooting, the West Virginia School Building Authority denied a funding request for a safe schools entrance in Lincoln County.

The vote came Tuesday as SBA members approved more than $65 million for 12 school construction projects, but in doing so rejecting 17 other projects.

One of those projects denied funding was from Lincoln County, which sought a safe school entrance for Lincoln County High School.

“I think all schools need safe entrances,” grandparent Richard Staley said Wednesday. “I mean, all the new schools are being built with safe entrances, so they need to really spend more time and more money on the schools that don’t have those.”

Similar disappointment shared Wednesday by Lincoln County Superintendent Frank Barnett.
