School Board approves AI gun detection program [Video]

The Nelson County School Board approved the ZeroEyes program at their October meeting.

Assistant Superintendent Shannon Irving presented to the school board a proposal for ZeroEyes, an artificial intelligence gun detection program for Nelson County Public Schools.

According to Irving, ZeroEyes is artificial intelligence that works with existing cameras across the school division.

“We have approximately 300 cameras that this software will work on top of that will be looking for weapons, assault weapons, handguns or anything like that,” Irving said at the October board meeting.

ZeroEyes is monitored 24/7 and doesn’t require a staff member to watch the footage Irving said .

“This is a program that was created by retired law enforcement and formal military personnel,” she said.
