CLEARWATER, Neb. (KOLN) – In northeast Nebraska, one newspaper covers five small towns: Clearwater, Ewing, Orchard, Page and Royal.
“Every community has their own identity,” said LuAnn Schindler, co-owner of the Summerland Advocate-Messenger. “We have stressed that from the beginning. We are Summerland.”
The Summerland Advocate Messenger is ran by LuAnn Schindler with help from her husband Scott Schindler. LuAnn used to be the managing owner of another area newspaper, until the owners decided to sell it.
“I went to work one day and found out I wasn’t going to have a job the next day,” LuAnn said. “I came home, and I said, ‘OK, we have options.’”
To LuAnn and her husband, the best option was to start their own newspaper, during a time of great change for towns in Holt and Antelope Counties. In the communities she covers, Ewing is the largest with close to 400 residents, and …
