Sentara Health adopts AI while ensuring human touch remains key [Video]

NORFOLK, Va. — While a visit to the doctor and using artificial intelligence may not be two things you expect to go together, experts at Sentara Health say they’re welcoming the technology, but within reason.

They say while some artificial intelligence tools, like Chat GPT, may be fairly new, the health industry has been using other forms of AI to assist doctors and patients for years.

“AI has been around for a long time, but I think with Chat GPT and the large language models, there’s been a lot more stir and interest in it,” Dr. Joe Evans told 13News Now. He’s Sentara Health’s Vice President/Chief Health Information Officer. He also sits on the health system’s artificial intelligence oversight committee.
