South DeKalb County residents welcome MARTA transit hub [Video]

Hub will feature park-and-ride, restrooms and access to four bus routes.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — MARTA riders in South Dekalb County will have easier access to public transportation when a new transit hub opens along Candler Road.

On Tuesday, MARTA announced its receiving a $25 million federal grant to help fund the $37.5 million project.

The new South Dekalb Transit Hub will be built in one of MARTA’s high ridership areas near Candler Road and Rainbow Drive, according to county officials.

“I grew up with the slogan ‘MARTA is smarter.’ They had that slogan years ago. I used to ride MARTA to school, it was 15 cents,” said longtime Dekalb resident, Alonia Parker. 

Parker said she’s seen the growing population impact drive times and thinks the hub will help people looking to avoid traffic jams.
